SAMPLE LETTER #1
Dear Sr. Asambleista, You will soon be considering law(s) that will regulate the use of seed in our country. I implore you to defend the health of the people and the environment by allowing Nature to provide us with seeds (as she always has) and not the government nor corporations. There is a worldwide agenda to usurp the sovereignty of nations by controlling their food supply. Please defend the sovereignty and dignity of Ecuador and its rich biodiversity. Do not allow any law that requires “certification” of seed in order for it to be used, sold, or transported. Please uphold the Constitution that protects us from GMO (transgenic) seeds. Please defend our lives and the lives of all our children by defending native seed. Thank you for protecting our lives and the future of Ecuador. Cordialmente, Sample letter #2 Dear Asambleista, The National Assembly of Ecuador, (equivalent of legislature) is currently debating a law that would make all seeds that are not "certified seeds" illegal. It would make growing, sharing, exchanging and selling seeds by neighbors and farmers illegal. They are arguing that only "certified seeds" are safe. This is double-speak language that has become all too familiar to us. "Certified Seeds" means mega-corporate profit and control of seed, food and life. It means seeds that cannot reproduce. It means attempting to harness the generous positive forces of Nature, and claim them for their own. We cannot let this happen. Big Ag has bought and sold politicians and scientists all over the world. Yet, in Ecuador, let us know that the people's voice still counts. The immense biodiversity of Ecuador is not for sale. It cannot be given away. It is the right of the Nature to express herself, and share herself as has always been. Dear assembleista, we are imploring you to protect us from these heinous laws that are against nature and against human rights. The people have spoken clearly against trans-gene seeds. We deserve fully organic seed, that has not been altered by chemical treatment. Uphold the Ecuadorean constitutional protections of food sovereignty and the ban against trans-gene seeds. Protect the natural organic seeds. Protect the people. Protect life. Your name SAMPLE LETTER #3 Dear Assambleista, I am writing about the Seed Law that has been presented to the National Assembly which has been twisted to serve national corporations, and desecrate life. Seeds are life. Seed should never be limited to the profits of any company. This law would give total control of our food source to large corporations. These same corporations, mostly huge chemical companies, are trying to gain a monopoly on agricultural seeds so that only their chemically induced seeds are available to the public and at a price that they decide. It is already very difficult to get organic seeds here. This scenario has already caused world-wide mass destruction of agricultural soil and peoples lives. In India alone, over 600,000 farmers have committed suicide because their chemical seed failed and they could no longer afford to buy the expensive seed from the mega-corporations. In many cases, these desperate farmers simply drank the poisonous chemicals that they were tricked into spraying on their crops. We do not want this agricultural devastation to occur in Ecuador as it has already polluted most the United States and other countries. This is a threat to the health of all of us and an attack on a natural, organic way of life. It would also wipe out the indigenous cultures as we know them. We must raise our voices and not allow this desecration of humanity. |
